Konstantin Nikolayevich Gruzdev was born on July 24, 1950. In 1972 he graduated with honors from the Kazan Veterinary Institute named after N. E. Bauman with a degree in veterinary medicine. He served in the ranks of the Soviet Army, worked as Chief Veterinarian in the Ermishinsky raion of the Ryazan Oblast.
From 1974 to 2003 his professional activity was connected with the FGBI "VGNKI" (Russian State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Standardization, Moscow) where he studied in postgraduate school, worked as Junior Researcher and then Senior Researcher, Head of the laboratory, was elected Head of the Virology Department and Deputy Director of the Institute.
In 1979 he defended thesis for Candidate of Science (Veterinary Medicine) degree, in 1993 - for Doctor of Science (Biology), since 1999 he was Professor of Virology.
In 2003-2007 - Director of Federal Centre for Animal Health (Vladimir).
In 2007-2010 - Head of the Veterinary Service of the Vladimir Oblast, Director of the Veterinary Department of the Vladimir Region Administration (Vladimir).
In 2011-2012 - Head of Reference Laboratory for African Swine Fever, Federal Centre for Animal Health (Vladimir).
From 2013 to the present – Chief Researcher of the Information and Analysis Center of the FGBI "ARRIAH".
Konstantin N. Gruzdev personally conducted and participated in research activities associated with studies of pathogenicity factors, immunogenicity, genetic markers of classical swine fever pathogens, transmissible gastroenteritis, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, animal rabies, he also proposed fundamentally new means of genetic diagnosis of viral animal diseases.
Konstantin N. Gruzdev is the author and co-author of over 350 works, including nine monographs, a scientific manual, a reference book, and two popular science publications. The scientific priority of his works is confirmed by nine copyright certificates and fifteen patents.
Under the guidance of Konstantin N. Gruzdev, 5 doctoral and 12 candidate theses were prepared and defended.
Konstantin N. Gruzdev represented Russia as a coordinator in the European Association of Veterinary Virologists, was a member of the Expert Council on Biosafety under the Ministry of Industry and Science of the Russian Federation, was part of the operational headquarters for coordinating measures to prevent avian influenza spread in the Russian Federation, was a member of the Russian Government Commission for African Swine Fever Spread Prevention and Eradication. He was a member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation. Currently he cooperates with the World Animal Health Organization (WOAH) on African swine fever issues while being an expert of the Standing Group of Experts (SGE) on African swine fever in the Baltic and Eastern Europe region under the GF ‑TADs umbrella.
In 1998 he was awarded the honorary title "Honored Veterinarian of the Russian Federation".
For the development and implementation of diagnostic tools, prevention and treatment of animal infectious diseases Konstantin N. Gruzdev was three times awarded the title of "Laureate of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology" as a co-author (in 1976, 2000, 2001).
Konstantin. N. Gruzdev was awarded the OIE certificate (Paris) for outstanding professional achievements in the field of veterinary medicine on October 11, 2018.
